Workshops
The Counseling Center offers workshops each semester on a variety of issues. You may call the office, check the hall bulletin boards, check the electronic bulletin boards or pick up a flyer from the display outside Davidson Student Center room 146. There will also be flyers posted across campus each semester giving times and dates of the various workshops.

Workshops are a free service for the students of CSU. Topics vary from semester to semester. Please check the schedule at the beginning of each semester. Workshops for Test Anxiety Management and Dream Interpretation are usually offered each semester.

Support group sessions are also available to students. Check with any therapist or Counseling Center staff for more information on starting a group.

Academic Retention -- For students on academic exclusion.

This three-hour workshop is designed for students who would benefit from:

  • Career/Life Planning
  • Anxiety Reduction
  • Learning Issues
  • Academic Survival

Each workshop consists of self-assessment, training and practice exercises that promote new skills, and discussion of relevant information.

Students required by Admissions to take this workshop should call the Counseling Center at 706-568-2233 to reserve your seat.  Once you've signed up, please be on time for the workshop. Once the door is closed students will not be permitted entrance.

Alcohol 101 +

Attend a virtual party and make choices for video characters. This innovative, interactive CD-ROM allows students to face the issues, challenges and decisions made on a virtual college campus -- dealing with alcohol.

This workshop is offered on an individual basis.

GETTING ORGANIZED

To get organized we will recognize stressors and imbalances in life to create a more effective model which will balance all aspects of your life.  We will also discover ways to use time wisely; making the most of the amount we have.  Getting organized will allow you to succeed in so many aspects of your life.

CHOOSING A MAJOR

Choosing a major?  Planning your career?  Getting a life?  Join us for a 1.5 hour interactive workshop designed to help you explore the process of deciding on a major.  This workshop will assist you in identifying your values, skills, and interests, and explore occupational information necessary to make decisions about majors and careers.

STRESS MANAGEMENT

Feeling stressed?  School, work, family, homework, and all the various other responsibilities in our lives can seem like a lot sometimes.  In this workshop we'll discuss some of the ways stress can build up and become over-whelming and then some ways to manage that stress so it doesn't get to be too much.  Possible stress reduction techniques such as organization skills and relaxation exercises will be included.

LOOKING GOOD -- FEELING BAD

This presentation addresses body image and eating concerns among college students.  It provides an overview of the most frequent problems related to eating and body image such as chronic dieting, compulsive overeating, bulimia, and anorexia.

MAINTAINING CONNECTIONS:  ARE YOU GETTING THE LOVE YOU NEED?

How do you maintain important connections during your studies and life?  Individuals maintain connections to different and changing settings and individuals.  This workshop will identify the different connections possible between people, nature, and animals.  A discussion of how connections can change, grow and end between people, nature, and animals will be examined, as will as how our experiences with connections affect our self-development.  Difficulties maintaining connections and staring desired connections will be reviewed.  Personal sharing, group discussion, and a participant directed process will be the focus of this workshop (1.5 hours).
